This means that Tahoe drops support for several Intel-based machines that were compatible with the current version Sequoia.

Some of these, like the Intel MBA from 2020, don’t feel particularly old, but it’s clearthat the switch the Apple’s M-series chips has left some previous models behind. You can see the full list below.

  • MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2020)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2019)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports)

This is the last release for Intel Macs

Apple has also announced that macOS 26 is the last major update that’ll be compatible with Intel-based Macs, with macOS 27 bringing features solely to machines powered by Apple’s own chips.

Older Intel machines might still get some security updates when required, but they won’t be supported by the software updates.

What’s new in Tahoe 26?

Spotlight has been supercharged to allow users to perform tasks directly from the search bar. For instance, you’ll be able to access your clipboard history and perform multi-parameter actions within apps.

The new Phone app will enable Mac users to manage their calls and voicemails, while iPhone Mirroring will enable Live Activities to appear in the menu bar.

The new Games app will consolidate all of your gaming experiences, while also introducing a Steam-like overlay for social features.

macOS Tahoe is currently available for registered developers in beta form, and it’ll be available in a public beta sometime in July. Expect to see a full release coming this fall, along with iOS 26 and iPadOS 26.
