Byte-Sized Brief
- Identity Check is a new OneUI 7 anti-robbery tool.
- It uses biometric verification and a security delay.
- Samsung says users should use all Theft Protection tools.
Samsung’s OneUI 7 update is rolling out to U.S. Galaxy users now, and with it comes a revamped suite of existing Theft Protection tools, plus a brand-new Identity Check safeguard, which the company says you need to turn on ASAP. This new tool combats theft attempts by bad actors who know your PIN or attempt to change it or your biometric information. It’s one of many security updates that Samsung has introduced to protect against the rising issue of smartphone theft.
When your phone is in an unfamiliar location, outside of your designated Safe Places, the system requires fingerprint identity verification. If someone tries to reset your biometric data, Identity Check turns on a one-hour Security Delay to allow more time to intervene and prevent device access. Identity Check and all the updated Theft Protection tools are available on the Galaxy S25 and several older flagship models, such as the Galaxy S24, Z Fold6, and Z Flip6, with more to come.
The Bottom Line
Identity Check is a new line of defense against device theft, rolling out to Galaxy users running OneUI 7. It works in tandem with several other Theft Protection updates and is rolling out to older flagship phones too, starting with the Galaxy S24.
