The RTings review pretty clearly saysolby AtmosSupported Generally speaking, I don’t disagree with your sentiment. But if your takeaway is that it’s not supported just because it down mixes the height channels into stereo because it literally lacks the up firing speakers, then you’re not understanding what a “supported” format means. It also doesn’t have rear surrounds, which is a requirement for ATMOS. This is a simple sound bar that takes object based Atmos metadata and flattens it into simplified sound. This still preserves dialogue, volume leveling, and some of the Dolby EQ enhancements. So you’re right that it loses most of the spatial immersion -intended- by ATMOS, and you’re not going to hear the sound of a helicopter coming in from overhead like you would with up firing speakers. But it DOES support the format, and is going to be better than pure stereo. That said, that’s also why it scored a ~3.7 on it’s ATMOS score on the RTings review. TL
R – It’s ATMOS supported, but simulated (or fake) ATMOS.
