How Do I Fix Outlook Not Receiving Emails?
Whether you’re using Outlook on your computer or through Outlook.com, try these steps one by one. Test the app after each step to see if it resolves the issue.
Check if Outlook is down. If you’re not getting emails on Outlook.com, Microsoft could be having an issue on their end. When this happens, there’s really nothing you can do but wait for them to fix it.
his step is necessary only if you’re using Microsoft’s email. If you aren’t receiving Gmail messages in Outlook, check if Gmail is experiencing issues.
Restart Outlook. On occasion, the email client (and other applications) can stop working for seemingly no reason. Closing and re-opening Outlook could be all it takes to clear up any issues that are preventing emails from arriving.
Check your internet connection. If you see Disconnected, Working Offline, or Trying to connect statuses, there may be network connectivity issues you can address.
Check other Outlook folders for messages. If new emails aren’t in the Inbox, they might be in the Junk Email folder, or you may have deleted them.
Look for the email on your other devices. Depending on how your server settings are configured, a message you deleted on one device might still exist on another device.
When using an IMAP email account on multiple devices, actions on one device reflect on all. Deleting an email from your phone will also remove it from your computer, and vice versa.
Update your password in Outlook. If you changed your email password through your provider’s website, you need to update Outlook with that new password before you can download emails.
All you’re doing in this step is telling Outlook your new email password. You can skip this step if you didn’t recently change the password to your email account.
Unblock their email address. By design, you won’t receive emails from someone you’ve blocked.
Unblocking the sender lets you receive new emails from them. However, old emails sent during the block won’t appear; they’ll need to resend those.
Switch Outlook to work online. Outlook can be set to work offline, preventing it from receiving messages. This is indicated by “Work Offline” being selected in the Send/Receive tab.
Create a new Outlook profile. Outlook uses profiles to store information about your email accounts. If your profile is corrupt, it can cause you to stop receiving email.
Clear the Outlook cache. This is a common practice when apps behave unexpectedly. Don’t worry, this won’t delete any emails.
Check your email rules. If you created a rule to route incoming emails to a different folder or delete them, it makes sense that you can’t find those messages. Examining the rule will show where your emails ended up, making it easy to read them.
Empty the Deleted Items folder. Your inbox might be too full to receive new messages.
While this isn’t a common issue, clearing out deleted messages can help. Consult with your email provider to verify if this is the problem.
