Byte-Sized Brief
- PQE is now on all NordVPN apps.
- It’s aimed at resisting quantum decryption.
- It works when using NordLynx.
One of the best VPNs available is getting even better. NordVPN is now offering post-quantum encryption (PQE) across all its apps, including Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and even smart TV platforms. This news follows last year’s rollout on Linux, which served as a testbed for the feature. But there is one key limitation: PQE only works when you’re connected via NordLynx, which is the company’s speed-optimized protocol built on WireGuard.
The reason this is big news is that quantum computers could one day break traditional encryption, which means VPN providers need to start thinking ahead. NordVPN’s CTO says this new feature is about building long-term resilience for user data. While the added encryption is invisible to users, it could play a big role in future-proofing online privacy due to its unique mathematical techniques designed to be too complex for quantum computers to break. PQE is available now through a toggle in the app’s settings.
