Byte-Sized Brief
- Meta launched Edits, built for Instagram video creators.
- It replaces the need for apps like CapCut.
- It includes AI, green screen tools, and no watermarks.
Earlier this week, Meta released Edits, a free video editing app aimed at replacing the patchwork of tools many rely on now, like CapCut. It’s already topped the Apple App Store charts to dethrone ByteDance’s app. Features include AI-powered animation, auto-captions, project management, and a green screen tool. It’s a fully loaded editor that exports high-quality video without a watermark.
Edits requires an Instagram login and lets you post to Instagram or Facebook, or save and share elsewhere. Future plans include adding keyframes, AI styling, and collaboration tools. Edits will give Meta deeper insight into how people create and engage with video, data that could help power its ad system and content algorithms. The global video editing software market is projected to reach over $5B by 2032, a sign of just how much value platforms like Meta can extract by owning the tools people use to create.
