This article explains how to hide replies to your tweets at X.com and in the app for Android and iOS. It also describes how to view and unhide replies you’ve hidden.
How to Hide a Reply on X/Twitter
Hiding replies isn’t permanent but can be useful if you need to clean up a thread without blocking people. If you see a reply to your tweet that you don’t like for any reason, you can hide it with a few clicks or taps.
Select the three dots next to the reply.
Select Hide reply.
Confirm by selecting Hide reply once more. The reply will no longer show up on your timeline.
If you’re using the app, you might see a prompt to block the user. Tap Cancel to just hide the reply.
How to See Hidden Replies and Unhide Them
You can see replies that you’ve hidden as well as ones that others have hidden by going to the original tweet.
Open the post with the reply and select the hidden reply icon to the right.
Another way to see a post’s hidden replies from a web browser is to add “/hidden” to the end of the URL, like this: x.com/name/status/1704/hidden.
Select more/three dots to the right of the Grok button.
Choose Unhide reply to make the reply visible again.
Muting, Unfollowing, and Blocking Accounts
There are various ways to deal with harassment or general unpleasantness on X short of reporting the user. If hiding replies isn’t sufficient, you can control what you see on X in three ways: muting, unfollowing, and blocking.
Muting an account lets you remove posts from another user from your timeline without unfollowing or blocking them. They can still send you direct messages, but you won’t receive notifications from their account. They won’t know you’ve muted them.
Unfollowing is self-explanatory. When you unfollow someone on X, you no longer see their posts on your timeline, but you will see replies to them from people you follow, as well as retweets. The user won’t be alerted that you’ve unfollowed them, but they can find out through some detective work.
Blocking a user is the most aggressive option. You won’t see their tweets on your timeline, and if someone you follow replies or retweets them, you’ll see a message about how the post is unavailable. Accounts you’ve blocked can’t follow you, and you can’t follow them.
A blocked user won’t get a notification, but if they visit your profile, they’ll see that you have blocked them. However, if your tweets are public, they’ll still see them if they’re logged out of X.
