Byte-Sized Brief
- Android 16 is getting a visual refresh.
- Changes include dynamic and colored icons.
- They might not arrive at the first release.
Google might be planning several visual upgrades for the next Android OS. Android Authority reports early signs of these upcoming changes in the latest beta build. While Android 16 Beta 4 doesn’t show these changes by default (so they might not stick around), there’s plenty under the hood that hints at the new look, including background blur across the board, flatter volume sliders, updated icons, and a cleaner lock screen layout.
In addition to colorful Settings icons and new shapes for home screen icons, Google is tweaking the status bar icons for things like Wi-Fi, mobile data, and battery, with a new segmented look and bolder visuals. The battery icon shifts color depending on its state: green while charging, red when low. The lock screen might also be cleaned up with a smarter layout that moves around the date, weather, and other information based on whether notifications are visible. The changes might not go live at the first public release, but could appear in a future update.
