First Trump Mobile, Now Klarna Mobile: Another Surprise Phone Service Is Here

Everyone wants to run your phone’s mobile service. Last week, Hollywood celebrities and podcast hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett teamed up to launch a new MVNO under the SmartLess brand. Then Trump Mobile took the industry by storm earlier this week as it launched the new T1 Phone, alongside its own carrier offering unlimited data for $47.45 a month.

Next up is buy now, pay later loan service Klarna. The financing company, which has over 25 million users in the United States, is launching a nationwide MVNO to go alongside its flexible payment systems.

The new service runs on AT&T’s service with what Klarna calls “reliable nationwide coverage.” It features 5G data with what it claims are “high speeds,” and it’s ready to go on your phone from today.

There’s one plan available to keep things simple with unlimited data, calls, and texts for $40 a month. The company says it plans to launch “premium” plans later this year, but it has yet to say what will be included. The service is also set to expand to other markets including Germany and the UK later this year.

Klarna is particularly proud of the fact it’s easy to move over to its service if you have a compatible unlocked phone. The brand is using eSIM technology, so it claims you can get yourself set up through its app in a matter of minutes.

“Consumers already know and love Klarna’s super smooth services and now, with one tap in the Klarna app, they’ll be up and running with their new phone plan — no hassle, no hidden fees, just great value,” said Sebastian Siemiatkowski, CEO and co-founder of Klarna.

Your mobile service will all be managed through the Klarna app, which gives the brand an easy place to advertise its buy now, pay later services directly to you.

Which brand will be next to launch its own MVNO to tempt you away from AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon? Many wouldn’t have predicted these three new competitors in the mobile service space, so it’s tough to know which company will be the next to surprise us with an expansion onto our smartphones.
