How to Search for Filters on Instagram

Instagram filters use augmented reality to add special effects to your Instagram stories and posts. Several filters are built into the app, but there are lots more available. Here’s how to look up Instagram filters:

1. Open the camera in the Instagram app, then swipe left through the icons at the bottom until you reach the far right. Tap the magnifying glass (called Browse effects).

2. Tap one of the filters you see or swipe through the categories to find other filters. To search for an Instagram filter by name, tap the small magnifying glass.

3. Tap a filter to start previewing it immediately.

4. Tap the preview window at the top of the app to exit the filter gallery and proceed with your post.

   On this screen, if you tap the name of the effect at the bottom, you can bookmark it to easily locate it again later.

How to Find Instagram Filters by Creator

Found a filter that you want to use? Follow these steps to save it for later use or apply it instantly to create a similar post for your followers.

1. Tap the three dots next to the caption at the bottom.

2. Tap the small button on the far right, which might say  +1 or something similar.

3. The filter the creator used is listed in the pop-up menu. Tap the bookmark icon to save it to your gallery for use later, or tap the camera icon to use it now.

4. If you selected the camera, choose Suggested audio & effects at the top of the screen.

5. Tap the effect from the list, then choose Continue to apply it right now.

Get Instagram Filters From Friends

Did you see a cool filter on your friend’s Instagram that you want to try? Ask them to send it to you from their gallery. As they preview the filter, instruct them to tap the filter’s name at the bottom, then tap send to share it with you.
