Did the iOS 26 Code Accidentally Leak Apple’s Next Product Launches?

Did the iOS 26 Code Accidentally Leak Apple’s Next Product Launches?

With iOS 26, the existing AirPods lineup will get studio-quality audio recording and a new camera remote, but what about new hardware? This week’s WWDC was a software-focused event, but the iOS 26 code suggests Apple may have some new earbuds in the works.

As spotted by MacRumors contributor Steve Moser, the iOS 26 code references AirPods Pro 3 alongside existing models. The AirPods Pro lineup hasn’t received a new model since 2023, and there have been rumors about a third-generation coming this fall.

“AirPods Pro 3 must be coming soon,” Moser speculated in an X post, citing the fact they’re mentioned in iOS 26 Beta 1. “Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any other references or hints as to what new features they might have.”

It’s not the first time Apple has inadvertently hinted at new AirPods Pro. Last month, a software release replaced mention of “AirPods Pro 2nd generation” with “AirPods Pro or later,” 9to5Mac notes.

If past trends are any indication, Apple might announce the new headphones at its annual fall event alongside the iPhone 17 series. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman had earlier tipped a redesign for the AirPods Pro 3 case and earbuds.

Apple’s iOS 26 code also hints at an AirTag upgrade, according to Macworld. The existing and lone AirTag model launched in 2021; it’s unusual for Apple not to release an update for so long.

Macworld says the code doesn’t specifically mention AirTag 2 but drops subtle hints about a new model. The company is trying to improve Bluetooth connectivity between Apple devices and the tracker. It is also working on new battery-related features that are not available on the first-generation AirTag, meaning it could be reserved for a newer model.
