Apple Mail on iPhone Is Broken for Some Users: Here’s How to Fix It

The Mail app is broken on iPhone for some users. Reports of the issue have grown over the last week with users taking to services like Apple’s own Support pages, Reddit, and other social media platforms with differing problems with the popular email app.

Writers at 9to5Mac have also experienced the issues directly, so it seems to be a widespread problem. Some Mail users are finding the app opens to a blank screen and remains unresponsive. Others have found the app is working for a short time, but it’ll crash unexpectedly.

Apple HQ has yet to officially acknowledge the issue, and it’s unclear what may have caused it. iOS 18.5 rolled out in early May, but the issues seemed to begin a lot later with most reports beginning early this week. That may suggest it’s something specific to the Mail app rather than Apple’s overall software, especially as there aren’t reports of issues with other Apple services.

One person who has had issues with Mail on iPhone XR running iOS 18.5 was told by Apple Support to try resetting the phone’s network settings. This user found doing this fixed the issue, so you may want to try it on your phone if you’re experiencing the problem.

To do this on your iPhone, head to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Other reports have said restarting their iPhone solved the problem, but some users tried this and found it only fixed it for a short time. Some have found force-closing the app allowed it to work, while others found disabling the keyboard’s auto-correction feature solved the issue.

Earlier this week, Apple released its latest adoption rate data that reveals 82% of active iPhones have downloaded and are running a version of iOS 18. Apple hasn’t specifically shared how many people are using iOS 18.5.

Next week we expect to see a major overhaul to Apple’s operating systems during WWDC 2025 with the introduction of what is rumored to be called iOS 26.
