I’ve had the opportunity to test the HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e inkjet printer for the past few weeks and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the quality and features it offers, all for under $300.
Printers aren’t really the sexiest thing to write about but this one has a lot to offer, which makes it pretty appealing in my book.

Key Features and Findings
There are a few things that differentiate the HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e from other printers. It’s not quite as fast as other printers I’ve tested, but the quality stood out.
- Print Quality. I was testing multiple printers at the same time I tested this one. What stood out to me in particular was the crisp, clear printing of images. While most printers do a decent job of this, I preferred the HP OfficeJet Pro 9125eE when printing out family photos to place into frames. The quality of all types of print jobs was outstanding, but with images, it was as if I had taken the photo to a store for a professional print. Maximum print resolution is 4800 x 1200 dpi.
- Copy Quality: Copy features include 1:1 side, 1:2 sides, or 2:1 side. It also offers a simple process to copy ID cards onto a single page, so you don’t wind up printing multiple sheets of paper for a tiny ID. Both color and b/w copies printed exceedingly clearly and quickly.
- Easy Set Up. The process was very simple: Connect to your network, open your computer, and add a printer. It will install everything for you. I have seen complaints that it’s not quite that easy to set up on Mac, so that process might be a little more difficult.
- Scanning/Faxing. The scanner is easy to use and provides very clear scans. I did not test faxing, but it does have that capability. HP offers Smart Advance Scan on this printer, which includes tools for scan quality, scan presets, and text conversion from images, plus a few other nifty features.
- Noisy. The one thing I didn’t care for with this printer was the noise. This is one of those printers that bangs around as it prepares for the print job, which can be a little disconcerting. However, the actual print process itself is fairly quiet.
- Media Types. This printer can print on a variety of plain papers, but not envelopes or labels. It can handle 250 sheets at a time with a max size of 8.5 x 14 inches. It can handle card stock up to 110 lbs.
My VPN blocked this printer, which it tends to do with most printers. If you experience difficulties while using your VPN, just shut off the VPN, and the problem should resolve itself.

The Bottom Line
This is a great little printer for a home office or just for personal needs and the price is good, especially when you can catch it on sale. Use it for printing color brochures, business documents, or pictures; you won’t be disappointed with the quality.
If you’ve been looking for a printer that can handle scanning and faxing along with printing, this could be the printer you need. While it’s a tad noisy at times, that’s not an issue that would prevent me from purchasing it.
