Super Mega Cakes, Hero Ball: What’s New to Watch on HBO Max the Week of June 13, 2025

Of all the streaming services, Max has gone through some of the biggest changes since it launched, and it’s about to get a rebrand back to HBO Max this summer. Whatever you call it, it delivers a serious selection of shows and movies from all of its partner networks in 2025, including HBO, Discovery, Food Network, and more. New shows and movies are constantly being added, so here are my three top picks for this weekend and the week ahead, plus everything being added below.

This Week on Max: PCMag’s Picks

Hero Ball: Season 3 (June 14)

The synergy that Warner Bros. Discovery brings to the table isn’t always productive, but taking the NBA and turning it into a sports anime? Pretty brilliant. Hero Ball follows the major players in the league, casting them as dramatic villains, triumphant heroes, and bizarre supporting characters. Even if you’re not into ball, this is a fun watch, and the episodes are nice and short; perfect for a weekend binge.

  • Genre: Sports, Animation

  • Rating: TV-MA

Super Mega Cakes (June 13)

Baking is the most scientific thing you can do in the kitchen, and the competitors on the new Food Network series Super Mega Cakes will need their measurements to be exact to construct massive pastry monoliths the size of human beings and bigger. Hosted by pastry patriarch Duff Goldman, six teams of cake artists from around the country have four days to design, bake, and build the most impressive cake that can also withstand a 50-person taste test.

  • Host: Duff Goldman

  • Genre: Documentary

  • Rating: TV-G

Mystery At Blind Frog Ranch: Season 5 (June 13)

Located in the scrublands of eastern Utah, Blind Frog Ranch just seems like another derelict property with its better days behind it. But owner Duane Ollinger believes different. He’s convinced that a massive buried treasure rests beneath the soil, and he’s willing to invest massive amounts of time and money to find it. After five seasons, you’d think he’d learn, but this is an entertainingly goofy watch with some real characters.
