- Instagram won’t tell you if you’re blocked, but you can find out with simple searches.
- You can tell if someone blocked you by checking if their profile shows ‘User not found’.
- If you can’t see their profile when logged in but can when logged out, you’re likely blocked.
This article explains how to tell if someone blocked you on Instagram. Instructions apply to both the mobile app and the website.
What Happens When Someone Blocks You on Instagram?
Essentially, nothing changes. Instagram won’t notify you if a user blocks you, so you’ll only find out through investigation.
Clues that someone blocked you on Instagram include:
- Someone’s account activity has dropped, and you haven’t spotted their shares or stories on your feed or received direct messages from them for some time.
- You search a person’s Instagram account handle but can’t find the account or access their profile.
How to Know If Someone Blocked You on Instagram
If you’re still uncertain, try these other methods to determine if someone has blocked you or if it was an error.
The app and website don’t provide a list of users who have blocked you. Thus, you can’t directly see who blocked you on Instagram. However, if you suspect specific individuals, these tips can help confirm if you’re blocked.
Search for their account. Tap the Search tab and input their username. If the account doesn’t show up in the results, they either blocked you or deleted their account.
Use an old comment or direct message to access their profile. If the profile appears but shows “User not found” and “No Posts Yet” on the photo grid, they likely blocked you
This method only works if you have exchanged messages with them.
If you primarily use the app, try visiting their profile in a web browser:www.instagram.com/TheirUsername.
If their profile is visible when logged out but not when logged in, it means they blocked you. If it remains invisible both ways, they might have deleted their account.
Try to follow them. Go to Instagram on the web and open their profile page in the browser. Check if they have blocked you by selecting Follow. If they have blocked you, the button won’t work, and Instagram might indicate a problem with a message.
Look for likes and comments on groups and other accounts. This activity indicates that the user hasn’t deleted their account but has only blocked you.
When someone blocks you, they also cannot see your profile on Instagram. You do not need to block them in return if you don’t want to. There is little you can do when you get blocked.
