Byte-Sized Brief
- Meta’s actively developing an Instagram app for iPad.
- The anticipated release is later this year.
- No more workarounds in Safari or via the iOS app.
If you’ve been waiting for Instagram to come to iPad, your patience is about to pay off. According to reporting by Mark Gurman, Meta is currently working on an iPad version of the app, with a probable release in late 2025. This news comes on the heels of Meta’s launch of WhatsApp for iPad at the end of May.
While app specifics aren’t clear, the most likely and welcome perk is that you won’t have to approximate the experience by downloading the Instagram iOS app for iPad or losing features by logging in via the web app in Safari. Gurman says that previous rendering and hardware limitations, which might have delayed development, are no longer an issue now that smartphone camera technology and Instagram’s improved aspect ratio support have been introduced.
The Download
An iPad-optimized Instagram app is in active development, which means you’ll likely get all the posting, editing, and viewing functionality of the iOS app without having to resort to any workarounds.
