How to Restart a Chromebook With the Power Button
Using the power button is the easiest way to shut down and turn on a Chromebook. Follow these steps if you’re experiencing minor issues such as Wi-Fi connectivity problems.
Find the Power key on the keyboard, most likely in the upper-right corner.
Some devices, such as those with a tablet mode, may have the key in a different location.
Press and hold the Power key for about two seconds until the screen goes dark.
If a Power Off option appears, select that instead.

Restart to Update a Chromebook
If your Chromebook needs to be updated, you’ll see the option to restart to apply the update. Instead of using the physical power button to restart the Chromebook, you’ll select the appropriate action on the screen.
Select the notification panel to display the Quick Settings menu in the lower-right corner of the screen.
Select Restart to update or Restart.
A blue notification means the update is recommended, while an orange notification indicates a required update.
Wait for the Chromebook to shut down and power back up.
How to Hard Reset a Chromebook
If you have more serious issues with the hardware, a hard reset may solve the problem.
Following these steps may delete files from the Downloads folder. These files aren’t recoverable, so ensure that you’ve made backups of the files you can’t afford to lose.
Press and hold the Power key until the Chromebook shuts down.
Locate the Refresh key. It looks like a circular arrow and should appear in the top row of the device’s keyboard, next to the back and forward arrow keys.
Simultaneously press and hold the Refresh key and Power button until the Chromebook starts up, and then let go of the keys.
Another way is to press and hold Back, Refresh, and Power for at least 10 seconds.
For Chromebook tablets, press and hold the Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds, and then release both buttons.
