In the last decade, the speed and performance of mini PCs have improved dramatically. Although they are small in stature, they’re workhorses that can handle most everyday tasks, with some models touting modest gaming specs. They’re affordable, compact and travel-ready. What’s not to like?

I’ve been a fan of these little machines since I first saw an Intel Cherry Trail Compute Stick back in 2017. At the time, I was looking for a PC that I could travel with, that could handle office tasks and streaming. Unfortunately, performance issues made it difficult to use regularly.

Later in 2019, I needed an Apple Mac for a music production class. That’s when I discovered the powerful, yet affordable, Mac Mini. This little powerhouse changed my thinking on the mini PC. These days, I find myself relying on this form factor more and more. I’m not into PC gaming and I don’t do heavy video editing, so I really don’t need a large computer, like the kind I’ve owned in the past.

5 Mini PC Specs I Look For

If you find yourself in the market for a new Windows machine, these four mini PCs are the ones I’d buy today. Whether it’s for entertainment or work, they deliver solid value in a small form factor.

My picks all have some things in common.

• The OS is Windows 11 Pro. If you’re not a Windows person, check out these mini PCs with Linux preinstalled.
• They each have 32GB of RAM, more than enough to support Copilot, according to Microsoft.
• They all support at least dual monitors.
• They’re all under $450.
• Each one has more than 100 ratings on Amazon and is rated 4 stars or better overall.

Although some of these machines are labeled as gaming mini PCs, I wouldn’t expect to be able to play the newest and most demanding games without some performance compromises.

4. Beelink EQi12

I’ve had a Beelink mini PC with Windows 10 for three years, and it has been great. I’ve never had issues with speed or lagging. I use it as an entertainment hub for my living room, but it’s also been a backup computer when my laptop needed repair. It is more than capable of handling basic office tasks and media streaming.

This EQi12 model is equipped with a 12th generation Intel 10-core i7-12650H processor and a 1TB SSD. What I really like about this model is the integrated power supply. No more ugly wall warts.

3. BOSGAME Mini PC M4

This next computer from BOSGAME might be my favorite of the group. It touts itself as a gaming computer, and packs some real horsepower for such a small device. It sports an AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS processor with integrated Radeon 780M graphics.

One of the things that make this a standout device is the expansion options when compared to others in this price range. You can upgrade your SSD to 4TB. You can upgrade the 32GB of DDR5 RAM to 64GB. If you are serious about gaming, you can add an eGPU. Additionally, it comes with two USB 4.0 ports and a VESA mount with hardware.

Overall, I think this machine strikes the perfect balance between price, size and performance.

2. GMKtec M5 Plus

The GMKtec M5 Plus is a great choice in this price range. While the Ryzen 7 5825U processor isn’t the newest hardware, it should be more than enough for things like streaming media, office work and light gaming. It’s the only device available in two colors, black or blue.

I like that this mini PC supports up to three 4K monitors, and that you can upgrade the RAM from 32GB of DDR4 RAM to 64GB. Additionally, you can add more storage via a 2TB SSD. It also comes with a VESA mount and the necessary hardware so you can hide it away behind your monitor.

1. GEEKOM A6

The GEEKOM A6 is another great option for those looking for the most bang for their buck. It has an attractive aluminum body with a similar look to the Mac Mini that stands out when compared to the other mini PCs on this list. The AMD Ryzen 7 6800H processor with built-in Radeon 680M graphics can handle everyday tasks like media streaming, office work and light gaming.

I like that it’s got a solid selection of ports, including two USB 4.0 Type C ports and three USB 3.0 ports. Combine that with support for up to four 4K monitors, RAM and storage that can be upgraded, and a modern look and feel, and you’ve got a strong contender in this price range.

Today’s mini PCs are far less of a compromise than they used to be. With affordable prices, flexibility and small stature, they are perfect for everyday computer tasks.

Of the four choices here, my pick is the BOSGAME Mini PC M4. The processor and expandability options make this a great choice for those looking to get the most out of their PC.
